Aim/Objective/Mission : Solid waste management of temple floral waste to bio fertilizers production Varanasi considered to be oldest divine living city of the world. Its one of the most religious city of india because of the diverse types of temples located in the city. Being situated at the bank of the river ganges. Its periphery is outlined by thousands of temples and hundreds of ghats. Because of this, floral market in those places occupies a major share of commerce & is an important source of income for the local traders as thousands of devotees daily throng these temples and pay floral tributes. However, this is not the problem of one city but through out Indian subcontinent. Proper disposal of the floral offerings is a major problem due to shortage of dumping grounds and stringent environmental laws. Because of these difficulties tones of floral offerings generated daily are generally disposed in open dumps or is released in the river ganges generating foul odor as well as act as breeding centers for dieses causing microorganisms. To prevent these, bhagirathi sewarchan samiti start solid waste management of temple/domestic floral waste to produce bio fertilizers. Bss collect temple waste from more than 20 temples including shri kashi vishwanath mandir, Varanasi.
