Aims/Objectives/Mission 😕 The main purpose of the ILO is to promote employment, social justice and the protection of workers in all walks of life. It does so: by encouraging its members to adopt International Labour Standards, i.e. ILO Conventions and Recommendations, with special emphasis on the following areas: freedom of association, the right to organise, collective bargaining, abolition of forced labour, equality of opportunity and treatment; by providing technical assistance.The main thrust of the ILO’s activities in India is to promote sustainable productive employment and social protection in the organised sector; promote sustainable productive employment and social protection in the unorganised sector; elimination of child labour; improving working conditions and occupational safety and health in selected sectors; strengthening the capacity of workers to respond to topical issues; and capacity of employers to respond to topical issues.
