Aim/Objective/Mission: When planning for year, saw corn when planning for decade, plant trees when planning for life, teach men. The three lines mentioned above were given by a chinese philosopher in the medieval period. But they are still equally important in today?s context. Keeping this philosophy in mind Chaukhamba initiated its drive towards literacy rates in remote areas. India is the second largest growing economy in the world but still a large section of our population is still illiterate. Let us imagine the potential of this nation if all its population becomes literate, thereby contributing its fullest to the growth. The area of our initial drive on this subject is on Primary Education. The survey conducted clearly suggested that the problem lies in teachers? absenteism in the formal Govt. School. When the schools are in bad shape and no teacher available, no meaning full outcome can be expected.
