Aim/Objective/Mission : Our mission is to empower and uplift children and communities through music. Most children are unfortunately not exposed to their rich classical music heritage either at home or at school. Today we stand at a point in time where we face the danger of losing our unique cultural identity. The shubhendra and saskia rao foundation dreams of ensuring that every child has access to good music education and takes pride in classical music as their own heritage. We want everyone to experience the power of music to transform lives. To harness the potential of music education our mission is to: empower children and youth through music education. Make indian classical music accessible and indian music education available to all children in india. Create a new way of teaching indian music to children and youth that corresponds with their developmental needs with attractive resources which is currently not available. Create a new profession within indian music that is a good professional alternative for young classical musicians, especially young women to become a music educator. Create new resources and translate our existing music resources that the shubhendra and saskia rao foundation has created specifically for indian music education. Promote the role that indian music has to play in facing challenges for today’s children, creating structure, group feelings, stronger communities, cultural heritage and positive role models, especially for young female musicians. To teach the foundation to school children has never happened and is the need of the hour in india to make indian music education available and accessible to all. Creating awareness of the huge potential music outreach programs have in india and bring together the stake holders in india for these programs: young musicians that consider music education as a professional option through our program, the educational department of the government, ngo’s, music departments of universities, music schools and academies throughout india. For this project we propose an international seminar in new Delhi, India. The seminar is divided in hands-on workshops, lectures, group discussions and performances and workshops for the children participating in the music4all program. We have currently 10 volunteers working with us for each 4 hours a week. Collaborating with music institutes in and outside india. The collaborations are focussed on the music4all program, creating awareness of the importance music education as a subject in indian schools, attracting volunteers for teaching and research. Organize events that promote awareness and give the children a platform to express. We had 3 concerts in the last 6 months for the children where they could showcase their talent and their process of learning. We also showcase and encourage prodigious talent by offering performance opportunities and a small scholarship. Until now, we showcased 4 children as solo performers varying in age between 9 and 15. We worked in collaboration with other ngo’s, the select city mall. Support and develop musical talent in both boys and girls. Talent development: whenever we see exceptional musical talent in the children we encounter, we guide them to develop their talent through teaching them personally or find the proper music academy for them to learn music and guide them on how to become a successful musician. Since the needs are so overwhelmingly large in india for a good music education program, we cannot afford to limit ourselves to 1 project. At the same time, we need to grow at a sustainable pace. We, unfortunately, had to turn down a lot of applicants by lack of funding. A one time funding will enable us to start of a lot of programs at the same time. We have access to talented volunteers, but have not enough to offer them. We need financial help to fulfill these dreams.
