Purpose : Agriculture, Community Development, General – Social Welfare, Minorities, Rural Development, Self Help Groups, Tribal Development, Tribal Issues, Women Development/Welfare, Women’S Issues.
Aim/Objective/Mission : The long term mission of sss is to create alternative and sustainable systems of livelihood for the poor and disadvantaged that would lead to their economic and social empowerment, in the context of an unequal but changing global and local environment. particular emphasis would be given to poorer regions within India and issues of womens empowerment. Sss organizational goals are mobilizations of women s collectives such as self help groups, federations of poor & women aiming at their social and economic empowerment. Fostering business and social entrepreneurship amongst individuals and groups drawn from disadvantaged backgrounds, to create a wider social base for self-reliant development. Provide a variety of economic services to micro enterprises where a large number of poor people earn their livelihood. Such services include technical assistance, credit and other financial services, market linkages and access to resources. A cluster development approach, focusing on resource poor regions, is adopted for this. Provide information, education and training to both poor communities and local organisations working with them, for capacity building and empowerment. Provide training/learning, research and related services to a wide variety of institutions involved in the economic and social development field. Conduct research and dialogue on policy issues through creating forums for policy advocacy over the years the strategic strengths of sss that have emerged are: achieved a substantive body of implementation experience through its field projects, in working extensively on livelihood issues with the rural poor, in different eco-political contexts, that are ready for replication now. Developed a cost effective and community sensitive strategy and methodology for experimenting, introducing innovative and relevant interventions and ideas and rigorously implementing these for strengthening livelihoods of poor in different contexts. Built up a competency and commitment to work together with rural poor communities, towards building up self-reliant community institutions at the local level, especially rural women. Each of its existing field projects have introduced specific technology and training based interventions that are not only benefiting a large number of poor, but that can, if packaged and promoted strategically, be up scaled to benefit thousands more within the population of the poor.
