Aim/Objective/Mission : Ratchagam is a non-governmental organization functioning on a non-profitable basis, started by like-minded people willing to share a part of their time and life towards helping to develop the neediest in society. Ratchagam is a Tamil portmanteau which translates ratcha meaning save and agam meaning shelter. The tagline is also part of the vision which says karam koduppom, aravanaippom. This means let’s extend our arms and usher towards care and love. We help the physically and economically challenged communities like differently abled children, hiv affecter’s children, orphan children, downtrodden, abandoned old age people, destitute uncared women etc. This organization is run and managed by board of trustees who are highly competent in their services and administration to successfully take the benefits to the needy. They have dedicated staff to execute the programs effectively and the trustees monitor it personally to see the benefits reaches to the deserved individuals. Since 1989 ratchagam is focusing on education to the downtrodden children, differently abled children and orphan. The differently abled children are capable of doing many thing as the normal kids, but they are often perceived incapable in many ways and denied of opportunities the actual fact of the issue are the barriers which prevents the growth and livelihood of the individual which are like the concern and sensitiveness towards the disability. If the society is little mindful in their approach and accept as one amongst them, it gives a great morale and self-respect to the physically challenged individuals. They do not expect sympathy but only a support. The attitude towards relating a disabled person should be done mindfully based on his/her disability and not to his/her ability. We should change the mindset of the parents, family members and the community which more often presume that educating or knowledge grooming a disabled child is a futile effort in investing their time, money and resource. This has been challenged in many cases and there are many examples of individuals who have emerged as champions amongst the normal, proving successful, productive and yielding to the society by enhancing their life skills. Ratchagam willing to adopt children from rural areas who are most needy in support and care. We educate and empower them in skill sets which will assist them in self-support, enabling livelihood them through self-employment. We also create awareness program to the parents of the individuals and the society.
