Purpose : Social development
Aim/Objective/Mission : SEWAA was founded as a non-profit making, non-political, secular, environmentally conscious voluntary organisation in response to particular problems relating to the 5 Es. SEWAAs current activities focus of activities is in the Central Himalayas region. Mountains have always played an important role in the history of humankind. They have also been sources of valuable resources like fresh drinking water, forest cover, flora and fauna and their products, valuable minerals, biological diversity, recreational/adventure sports and most important as a spiritual destination. But, despite of all these rich natural and human resources, local communities remains deprived of their basic needs and are left behind in the developmental terms; a situation that continues, even after the formation of separate hill state in November 2000.
SEWAA believes that given the opportunities to access and use ICT, the disadvantaged, marginalized and poor can improve their socio-economic well-being and empower themselves and their communities to participate in and be responsible for their own development. There are increasing risks of duplication and information overload. SEWAAs experience over the last 10-11 years shows that scare resources can be more effectively utilized through coordination, information exchange and increased collaborative opportunities using ICT tools.
