Aim/Objective/Mission : Pariyavaran Evam Jan Kalyan Samiti’s (PEJKS) work area is concentrated in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand state. Udham Singh Nagar has borders with Uttar Pradesh, Nepal and is just 270 Kms from Delhi. This area is getting highly industrialized; hence flow of labourers from different parts of the country in this region is more. Hence, the prevalence of HIV/AIDS is high in this region. PEJKS is implementing TB DOTS programme under Revised National Tuberculosis Programme (RNTCP) funded by Government of India in Udham Singh Nagar since 2005. Under this programme PEJKS runs 3 Tuberculosis Units (TU) in Rudrapur, Khatima and Kashipur for administering DOTS to patients and the experience is that the prevalence of TB in this region is much higher than other districts of Uttarkhand. For this specific project the organization wants to concentrate on Rudrapur TU. Rudrapur TU comprises of 56 DOT centres and caters to 640 TB patients (2008-09 figures). The organization also runs an HIV/AIDS programme in Rudrapur block. 98 HIV/AIDS patients are registered with the organization from Rudrapur block. This programme is funded by Uttarakhand AIDS control society.
